Effectiveness of personal comfort systems on whole-body thermal comfort – A systematic review on which body segments to target

چکیده

Personal comfort systems (PCS) promise individualized thermal comfort, energy-savings and may even contribute to health by locally heating/cooling specific body segments. To date, however, insights into PCSs’ design guidelines or their effectiveness on whole-body are scarce. The fundamental question which segments should be targeted has not yet been answered. This paper attempts answer this systematically reviewing studies effects local the whole restricted office scenarios. results imply that discomfort distribution over determines PCSs eliminate targeting it directly indirectly. In a typical scenario, cooling affect perception in non-targeted segments, however heating not. Therefore, could heat uncomfortable cold environments while indirect also effectively relieve warm environments. Moreover, moderate conditioning does skin temperatures most findings suggest human thermoregulation stimulated, hence, benefit our health, without compromising comfort. Directions for future PCS proposed bridge energy-efficiency offices.

Experimental study of thermal comfort on stab resistant body armor

PURPOSE This research aims to investigate the impacts of exercise intensity and sequence on human physiology parameters and subjective thermal sensation when wearing stab resistant body armor under daily working conditions in China [26 and 31 °C, 45-50 % relative humidity (RH)], and to investigate on the relationship between subjective judgments and objective parameters. METHODS Eight male vo...

The Effects of Whole Body Vibration on Mobility and Balance in Parkinson Disease: a Systematic Review

Whole body vibration (WBV) is a contemporary treatment modality that holds promise as an exercise training method in health–compromised individuals. A growing number of studies on individuals with Parkinson Disease are examining whether WBV improves balance and functional mobility. However, interpreting WBV studies is challenging since there is variability in the manner in which WBV interventio...

Thermal comfort and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is considered the last preferred solution to an Occupational Safety Health (OSH) system. Brazilian OSH legislation assumes and requires PPE usage to neutralize the possibility of pesticide contamination. This study examines the inadequacy of the PPE used in a tomato crop, particularly from the standpoint of thermal comfort. This study made observations regard...

Partial- and whole-body thermal sensation and comfort, Part II: Non-uniform environmental conditions

Subjects were exposed to sequences of partial-body cooling and warming over a period of three hours. Skin temperatures, core temperature, thermal sensation, and comfort responses were collected for nineteen local body parts, and for the whole body. This paper relates local thermal sensations and comfort to skin and core temperatures, and examines how the thermal sensation and comfort perceived ...

Partial- and whole-body thermal sensation and comfort, Part I: Uniform environmental conditions

Subjects exposed to uniform environments were polled for their local and overall (whole-body) thermal sensation and comfort. Sensation and comfort for local body parts vary greatly. In cool environments, hands and feet feel colder than other body parts. The head, insensitive to cold but sensitive to warm, feels warmer than the rest of the body in warm environments. Overall sensation and comfort...
